Per i seminari del Dipartimento di Scienze Fisiche e Chimiche mercoledì 15 ottobre alle ore 14.30 in aula A.1.6 (Edificio "Renato Ricamo") il Dott. Diego Ravignani ( ITeDA, Argentina) terrà un seminario dal titolo
"The discovery of cosmic rays"
Abstract
Since the discovery of radiation at the beginning of the 20th century, the quest to uncover its origin has been a central theme in physics. We will retrace, from a historical perspective, the chain of events that culminated in Victor Hess’s balloon flights of 1912 and the discovery of cosmic rays. Particular emphasis will be placed on the winding and uncertain path that often precedes major breakthroughs, highlighting the collaborative nature of such endeavours. Finally, we will leap forward more than a century to introduce the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina—the largest facility of its kind—dedicated to unveiling the mysteries of the highest-energy cosmic rays.
